Mission Report No 72

The Brisbane YSA "ALL IN" Choir. Monday 14th August Today we said farewell to Elder Key and Elder Keung, who had both served in the Cairns District since they started their missions, and the Lord knew that it was time for them to move on down to SE Queensland. Here are links to their farewell messages to those of us staying in Cairns. Tuesday 15 August It was our friend Yoriko's birthday two days ago, so today we celebrated, by going to the In 2 Thai restaurant with her and our young Taiwanese friend, Zoe. It was a beautiful lunch! If you ever want really nice Thai food in Cairns, it is certainly the place to go! In the evening we drove Zoe, Amoy and Amoy's brother Teancum, to Institute. Wednesday 16 August Fairly quiet day today, but we did have our CFM New Testament study class tonight, so I spent a fair bit of time preparing for that, although really only Elder and Sister Carr came tonight, and Sr Marilyn Taula a bit later, so it was more a "getting to know th...

Report No 71

Margot has written this one and I have added a few comments in italics. Tara and her friends Monday 7th August, 2023 Did more shopping for the new house for the Senior Couple. In the evening Elder Ceff made pizza to have with Brigham and Nai and Sui and Aina.  We were blessed to see more of their new born and both are doting parents. Tuesday 8th August Had to do a Condition of Entry and be at the new house when the white goods arrived. Murray was not feeling a 100 percent so Elder Long and Elder Jaussi kindly assisted in assembling the bed frame as the Carrs, the new Senior Couple, were arriving on Thursday. In the evening, Murray had District Council Meeting. At the District Presidents request, I talked a lot about Temple and Family History Work, which they are trying to raise awareness of and activity, in the District. Wednesday 9th August More shopping for the house. Gospel study class in the evening. Thursday 10th August More shopping and because we were running out of time, Yo...

Blane and Kara Johnson visiting with us.    Monday 31 July 2023 We had a District P-day today. We had a lunch at the Church meeting-house and then played some games. It was fun! It's been about 2 weeks since I've been kite foiling and I miss the beach, so I went out to Yorkey's this afternoon just to have a walk along the beach, and at least breathe a bit of salt air! Tuesday 1 August 2023 This morning we dropped the Talbots to the Airport as they are going down to Brisbane to be with the McPhersons at the Temple for their big day. I think we did a bit of shopping today - furnishing the new house for Elder and Sister Carr, who will be up here very soon. Wednesday 2 August 2023 Quiet day, with our Come Follow Me class tonight. Thursday 3 August 2023 I think we had some furniture arriving at the new house at Mt Peter today. Then this evening we went to pick up the Etheridge family from the airport. They arrived back from Tassy, after working down there for 2 months. It wa...

Dinner with the Luki family. Margot has written up most of this report thankfully. I have added a few words in italics. Monday 24th July, 2023 We picked up a sister and husband to take to a medical appointment. Drove Zoe, who is here from Taiwan on a working holiday visa, to various places to drop off her resume in the hope of getting work. Murray went for a treatment for his back which is fine but just as a precaution. In the evening we had an enjoyable dinner and FHE along with the sister missionaries with Mark and Shane Luki family.  I said I would bring dessert but when I turned the oven on it didn't work but fortunately the sisters were home and able to cook it there. Tuesday 25th July In the morning it was our turn to attend District Council and teach the self-reliance lesson. We ordered food from Subway for the Missionary Conference on Friday.  We have discovered that Subway platters and salads are a good healthy option. Not having much success applying online for a new...

Saturday at Tara's with her neighbor and Elders Rydalch and Key, and Lyons and Long.   Monday 17 July 2023 Another amazing brekky at the Kimi'ia's this morning. What a wonderful family, cooking a breakfast for six of us again. We will really miss them when we go home. In the afternoon, Margot cooked a meal to take to some friends who are experiencing some difficulties at the moment. Cooking is an essential skill for senior missionaries! I went for a kitesurf this afternoon while Margot was cooking. A good division of labor - I'm not a great cook and Margot's not a great kitesurfer. Tuesday 18 July 2023 I woke up through the night itchy. My back was so itchy in the middle of the night that I got out of bed and rolled around on the carpet to scratch it. I went over to Nimai's place this morning to mow the grass. Coming home, I needed to have a shower and as soon as I got wet I seemed to break out in this weird rash all over my abdomen and back. Very strange, but t...
