Missionary Report No 57

There's one in every crowd, isn't there?

Monday 1st May, 2023

This morning Murray had another treatment for his back with Sister Davies. It was feeling normal until he tried to get out of the car.

This afternoon, we watched the funeral for Sister Heather, in Geelong.  I will miss Wendy as she has always been a pillar of strength to me.

Tonight, we had our first Seniors FHE via zoom for North Queensland.  It was a little comical at the start as not all of us are experienced with technology, but we are quickly learning.

Tuesday, 2nd May

This morning we picked up Elder Hamilton and Elder Wintz to go and do Tai Chi with the other elders. I noticed we were being observed and when we had finished, the person came to speak to us and said she does Tai Chi also. At least she recognized we were doing Tai Chi.

We received a call from the company hiring a seasonal worker from Samoa as he wanted to find the location of the nearest chapel. Murray connected him with the Elders in Atherton.

Last week we were asked to look for a place in Atherton for a senior couple. The rental market is tight there too, but Murray suggested we call the Agents we are renting the elder's flat through, and they had a property that had just become available and is ideal.

Tonight, we took a meal to a sister who has recently had a hip operation and played scrabble with her. She really appreciated the visit.

Wednesday, 3rd May

On Sunday, invited one of the member's grandsons who is staying with her to youth activities. He came with two of his friends which was exciting.

Thursday, 4th May

Found out the elders have a baptism on Saturday.

Friday, 5th May

The Mission President and his wife arrived today. In the evening we went to the Thai restaurant, "In 2 Thai" with them and the Kings. Last time we went there President Vongsawad, who speaks Thai,  discovered they have a family connection back in Thailand.  He invited them to church, and they have been coming most Sundays.  The meal was magnificent.

Saturday, 6th May

We had one person turn up for Tai Chi.

In the morning was the baptism. The family are originally from PNG and the father baptized his 11 year old daughter.

In the afternoon we took a present to CJ for his birthday, who was the one who came to youth Wednesday.

Sunday, 7th May

Today we found out what the boundary changes are. The Cairns and Townsville Districts have been dissolved and made into one District, the North Queensland District. Our new District President is only in his early thirties. Most of the meetings will have to be conducted by zoom.
