Mission Report No 17

Monday 11th to Thursday 14th

More boring at home isolation. I'm so glad I didn't get Covid 12 months or more ago when you had to do two weeks of isolation. Would have driven me crazy! Something to keep me on track though was knowing that I would be teaching a Sunday School class for our young Singles on Sunday morning in 2nd Branch  and speaking in Sacrament meeting in 1st Branch in the afternoon.

Friday 15th July 2022

Freedom at last! Trouble is I still don't have the energy to do much. I really want to go for a kitesurf, but just the thought of getting in the car to drive out to Yorkey's is exhausting! We went shopping - that was enough exercise. Good to get out of the house though!

Saturday 16th July

Up early this morning to get the house ready for another real estate sales inspection. I'll sort of be glad when they finally find a buyer, but the trouble is that will almost certainly mean having to find another place to rent, and in the current real estate rental market, that is going to be incredibly difficult to do. Our lease expires on the 10th October, so we have a couple of months to find a place, but still, it won't be easy. 

Saturday 17th July
More shopping today - that's about as much walking as I can handle.

Sunday 18th July

Br Matt Smith, district councilor and district Sunday School president spoke this morning, on the same subject that I was assigned to speak on at Cairns 1st Branch in the afternoon Following Christ by being a Peacemaker. It was good to hear his take on the same subject.

I taught the YSA Sunday School class - first one in Cairns 2 for a long time. Jordan Luki and Hunter Esler were my only students, but they were good students! Sadly, Hunter is moving down to Sydney to attend University down there. She's a bright girl - she will do very well I am sure. And living in Sydney will open up a whole new world for her socially. We wish her all the best!

Us with Elder Bergeson.     Monday 28th August 2023 I did my first live interview today with a person who is a Christian of another faith. I met Sam Korinek while on Instagram, after he had made a comment on someone else's post, and it seemed to me that he could learn a bit more about the Church and our beliefs and make some better comments in the future perhaps. We had a preliminary chat a couple of weeks ago, and we got on very well together, so planned ahead for a live chat., which has now been uploaded to YouTube and Facebook and as a podcast. Here's the YouTube video -  Tuesday 29th August 2023 Rode the bike to the Lagoon Esplanade pool this morning to do some laps. Got home in time to do another interview, this time with Tim Cabal, who is the actor playing the part of the lord of the vineyard in the upcoming Book of Mormon movie based on Jacob 5. Mission Report No 75

Zoe's picnic at Yorkey's Knob This is our second last week here in Cairns. We are getting very busy. As always, not everything we do gets a mention here. It's just too much. And we want to get all our reports up to date before we actually leave, because once we are on the road (in a few days as I write this on Saturday 16th) we won't be able to get much written. Monday 4th September 2023 We arrived back in Cairns this morning, from Brisbane, at about 10.00am. Sister Hales and Sister Boonsarn picked us up, which was very nice of them. We drove Elder and Sister King down to the Carr's place at Mt Peter, where their car was parked. We stopped at Earlville Shopping Centre on the way, and somehow lost a set of car keys for the Carr's car, possibly while there. We had a walk around our usual route in Edge Hill late in the afternoon. Mission Report No 77 - Going home (first week)

Sunday 17th September 2023 As per usual, we attended both the Cairns branches, and as it was our last Sunday in Cairns we were invited to speak briefly at the beginning of the meeting. Sunday evening we had a very nice dinner with some of the other Cairns District senior missionaries, plus the Pattons and the Greenhalghs who were up from Cairns. After dinner at the Carrs. Back row - Elders Greenhalgh and Carr Middle Row - Ekder and Sister Patton, Sister Greenhalgh, Elder and Sister King Front row - Margot and I with Sister Carr Monday 18th September 2023 Early visit to the Taula's today to pick up some beautiful gifts (white crocheted temple bags) that Sr Taula had made for us.  Back home to clean and organize stuff - lots to do! But before that we dropped in to see our friends the Wetzels, to say goodbye to them.
