Missionary Report No 56
This is Miracle, in Nigeria, whom Murray should be interviewing this Wednesday, if the technology works! |
Monday 24th April, 2023
Sister Davies kindly did a Touch for Health with Murray over the phone.
Lois needed a ride to an appointment because the rain was bucketing down.
One of the sisters in the Branch visited in the afternoon.
Murray was on a high because he had a family of six who he had referred to the missionaries in Victoria, and another person (in New Zealand) all attend church yesterday. They were all people he knew from when he did Residential care work, about 10 years ago.
Tuesday 25th April
The highlight of today was that Murray received a video of his grandson, Jiah, surfing for the first time and he managed to stand up. Leahannah and Jiah went to stay the night down with Miriam and Taylor, who live near Phillip Island. So proud of Taylor and Miriam for giving him that opportunity. Taylor is very good at instructing people on how to surf (worked his way through university as a Surf Instructor) and was the one that helped Miriam get to her feet.

This morning the elders phoned to tell us that someone had tried to unsuccessfully break into their flat. They managed to wreck the door handle so were unable to lock it but Murray was able to get someone to fix it that morning. A bit puzzling as to why they would choose a flat with four elders in it.
In the afternoon we brought Lois here to help her set up an account with Family Search and commence her family history.
Tonight, Murray was interviewing Miracle from Nigeria (pictured above) about her conversion story and she said it started when she was studying in Malaysia and boarded a train and sat down next to a sister missionary from Australia, Sister Taylor. I then remembered the Taylor family who used to live in our stake and their daughter served in the Singapore Mission. Miracle only met her that one time on the train and so we are hoping to reconnect them. So, the interview didn't quite work out. Bandwidth is a precious commodity in Nigeria and it's hard to work with, so Murray is trying methods other than Instagram live. He tried recording a WhatsApp video call with her tonight, but there was video but no sound. Half an hour of video footage without sound is not very useful!

I went for a bike ride this morning and when I returned, I couldn't get in because the gates wouldn't open. Fortunately, Murray heard me calling out and came to the rescue but not only for me but for the other residents in this complex who weren't able to leave for work. He dismantled the gates but this is not the first time it has happened. It seems to occur when it rains and although we have had people come to fix the problem it is still occurring.
Murray had another treatment for his back and was able to do laps at the pool which seemed to help. He is almost back to normal.
Friday, 28th April
We spent today working from home and Murray had another treatment for his back but he didn't charge him.
Saturday, 29th April
Unfortunately, the people who had booked in for Tai Chi all cancelled.
Yoriko who went to the missionary fireside last week has come up with a wonderful idea to help the elders with those they are teaching and have recently baptized. She said it was what they did when she was a missionary.
Tonight, we attended the Self Reliance course which they are running at Church again.
This is Sue, with Elder Schick on the left and Elder Hamilton back in February, when we first met her. |
Sunday, 30th April
The highlight of today was that Sue, who we met at the shopping centre back in February, and has a son and daughter in Fiji who joined the Church, turned up unexpectedly. She is from Fiji but working in Cairns. She promised to cook a chicken curry for the elders so is coming here soon to do that.
