Missionary Report No 53

Barron Falls

Monday 3rd April 2023

As you can see from the number of reports, we have reached our year mark. Today we did an inspection of one of the elder's flats prior to an official inspection by the real estate agent. I am glad we did a previous inspection.

Tuesday 4th April

Nothing outstanding comes to mind. Here's a link to one of Murray's latest interviews on Spotify, and another link to the same interview on YouTube. Murray will be really happy if you like and subscribe and comment on either platform. This will help them show up more in the search engines and help get more positive LDS material in front of people online.

Wednesday 5th April

We headed down to Innisfail to buy bikes for the new elders, Elder Dunyon and Long, who will be arriving Thursday. We decided it would be better to buy bikes there for when they need to get them serviced.  The only bike shop in Innisfail is called, Wobble In, and the man who served us was very concerned about us buying the right bikes. On our way back to Cairns, we took the turn off to Bramston Beach, which we had been recommended to visit and it was truly worth the 10 to 15 mins detour. A very underdeveloped coastal area and apparently Cassowarys are often sighted in the area.

Thursday 6th April

Today the elders arrived for Innisfail. With a name like "Long", I was expecting him to be tall but both are medium height. Elder Dunyon is a Mandarin speaking elder so it was surprising that he should be sent to Innisfail. Today we also watched the funeral of Penny Cowan who we knew when they lived in Lara. The last time I saw Penny was in 2019 and she looked in great health. None of us know when it is going to be our turn. Felt very sorry for her family who are going to miss her incredibly. Then in the afternoon, we went to Silly Solly's and while there invited one of the twins who work there to church for Easter Sunday. In the evening we picked up Josh, who the elders are teaching along with his girlfriend, Bethany.

Friday 7th April

Today we caught up with things at home

Saturday 8th April

Today the Kings came to have lunch with us. They will be taking on the Atherton elders as well as the Innisfail elders. Also Glen, Murray's indirect cousin, informed us he would be arriving in the afternoon. Glen is Seventh Day Adventist so had many questions to ask us. He said he wanted to come to church with us.  Glen is the son of Murray's Dad's biological Mother's half brother. In short, he is Uncle Tony's son!

Sunday 9th April

This morning we picked up Sister Pullen who is a single sister missionary serving in the office in Brisbane. She is up visiting family holidaying here. Although she has been living in the UK, she grew up in NZ and her maiden name is Muir. We discovered that we were at CCNZ the same time. Murray was one of the speakers and as usual spoke very well. Glen enjoyed the service and especially the comments of those who spoke from the heart. We invited Sister Pullen to spend the rest of the day with us and decided in the afternoon to go for a drive to Barron Falls.  Because the rainy season has just ended, there is a lot of water flowing at the moment so very impressive. While there we bumped into Jen Thompson, and some of her sons, who we hadn't seen for a while.
