Mission Report No 40
There's nothing quite like an Ethiopian Christmas! |
If you are still reading these reports after all these months, congratulations, I'm amazed that I've not bored you to death by now.
Let's see what I can remember about the last few days.
Monday 2nd January 2023
As per usual, recovery from Sunday which is always our busiest day and catching up on things around the house.
Tuesday 3rd January 2023
Huh? Same as yesterday. Not many people in Cairns at the moment - people are away on holidays.
Wednesday 4th January 2023
The highlight of the day was having our young Elders Hamilton and Schick come for dinner tonight. They dropped around to pick up some cookies for a birthday cookie drop and I asked them if they had a dinner appointment for tonight - they didn't, so I invited them around for homemade vegie pizza. They jumped at it of course, and they came back at dinner time.
Did I say that I beat Margot at Banagrams and Upwords on one night this week. Maybe it was tonight, I'm not sure, but I guess I just got lucky, or maybe she wasn't trying.
Thursday 5th January
Well, today was a busy day at last!
Washing machine repair man called Adam (yes, he was a man, not a repair-person, a repairman) came to fix our dodgy machine and that all went smoothly.
After Adam left, we started to get ready to go out and do some shopping and some visits. But whoa, what's that, a 12 knot northerly blowing at the airport? Let me have a quick drive out to Yorkey's. Darn wind indicator was lying to me. Probably 5 knots at the most. Back home and back to shopping and visits.
We were going to go to visit Mildred Stafford, whose husband Rodney was buried just before Christmas, but on our way there we received a text message from John Adams saying that he was in hospital and he needed a lift home to Port Douglas. I called him and we spoke briefly on the phone, but things didn't seem right to me, so we had to postpone seeing Sister Stafford and go to the hospital to see how we could help John.
Friday 6th January 2023
Atherton flat inspection in the morning, a visit to the Cashmore's in the afternoon, and dropped in some cheap mangoes to the Thompson family in Kuranda on the way home. Busy day, but I'm not writing too much about it.
Saturday 7th January 2023
Tai Chi class this morning, followed by a big family gathering at the Eteru's to welcome home their oldest son Mahonri, who has just graduated from Brigham Young University in Hawai'i.
Late this afternoon we met the young 1st Branch Elders at the hospital to give John Adams a blessing and then met the young 2nd Branch Elders at an appointment to assist them in teaching Lizzie, a young Torres Strait Islander mother that they have just started teaching.
Sunday 8th January 2023
After attending both Cairns branches today, we went to our friend Hana's to celebrate Ethopian Christmas with her family and others.
