Mission Report No 16 - Covid

My very weak second line on Friday 8th July

It's a Covid week!

On Monday we went online to view the funeral service for Craig Richardson from Melton Ward. We were both very sad to hear of his passing. Margot has been friends with his wife Ros since Young Single Adult days probably 40 years ago. I must admit that I had never had the chance to spend much time with Craig, but I really did enjoy each moment that I spent with him. Top bloke!

Tuesday morning (July 5th) all six of us missionaries went to the Kimi'ias home for breakfast as always it was an absolute feast.

Later that day we drove to Atherton, to visit a friend of Elders Dollery and Pollock, a lady our age called Gypsy. Not her real name but that's the name she likes, and it suits her. Margot was not feeling too well and we probably should not have gone, but we had a good chat with her, filling in some gaps that the young Elders had perhaps not got across all that well. But by the time we got home that night, Margot we definitely coming down with something.

Wednesday morning I did some searching online for list of Covid symptoms and decided that it was a definite possibility and worth testing for. The RAT went off like a fire cracker, with the two lines showing up literally within seconds. As the day went on Margot got worse and worse and literally slept all day. The night she asked me to give her a priesthood blessing. The next day she woke up a little better and Friday she was a bit better again.

By Friday, I was going crazy staying home most of the time, and Margot was feeling the same, trying to limit the time she came downstairs, to limit contact with me. So, maybe not the smartest thing I've ever done, I rode my bike down to the botanic gardens, walked up Mt Whitfield and then swam 1000m at the pool and then rode home. I was unusually tired after all that. So, I tested myself later that day and had a very week positive reading. Great - 7 days of lockdown!

It's now Saturday and apart from feeling pretty lethargic, I'm not too bad.

Sunday - umm... was that a day?

Sunday night "sleep" was one of my worst nights ever! Just could not get comfortable. Slight abdominal pain, slight fever, and not sleepy. I think I might have finally fallen asleep at about 5 or 6 this morning and then woken up at 7. The only advantage was that I was able to follow the live scores from Wimbledon for the Djokovic/Kyrgios final. Disappointing, but at least he got sort of close.

Do all of us Aussies have a love/hate relationship with Nick Kyrgios? He's not a model citizen is he? He wears his heart of his sleeve, to his downfall sometimes, as in last nights match. Is it all just an act, to get more publicity? I think it is sometimes, but not all the time. But we have a tendency to support the "lovable rogue" don't we? He can certainly play some amazing tennis. I think we will see him persevere until he wins at least one major. Does he have the work ethic to win more? There's lessons for all of us there. Let's not judge him to harshly.

My commiserations to anyone who gets Covid!
